They claimed that female-line succession has never occurred and that the 2021 advisory panel report deemed it appropriate to limit succession to paternal-line males. In reality, that report did not state such a limitation; it merely shifted the focus to maintaining the number of imperial members. It is apparent that PM Takaichi has not even read the report and is merely imposing her personal ideology. Their attitude—pretending to revere the Imperial Family while completely ignoring the Emperor’s words—is profoundly insincere and, as a voter, I feel a deep sense of indignation.

In my dedication to seeing Princess Aiko succeed the throne, I am currently active in a project to send copies of “Aiko Tenno-ron 3” (by manga artist Yoshinori Kobayashi) to newly elected members of the Diet. As Princess Aiko’s public duties increase, domestic media are also beginning to ask more pointedly, “Why does the government reject Empress Aiko?” I am certain that the accurate and detailed reporting by international media like AP News has provided a vital tailwind for this shift in discourse.

I earnestly request that you continue to cover the imperial succession issue and the Japanese people’s desire for Princess Aiko’s accession. Thank you for your vital work.
